That’s a clear and concise overview of how competency-based assessment works! To ensure you’re well-prepared, here’s a summary of key points to keep in mind:

  • Assessment Goals: The primary aim is to determine whether you can demonstrate the necessary skills and knowledge to perform specific tasks within a workplace. Your performance is judged against predefined national standards.
  • Competency Outcomes: Your results will be classified as either: Competent: You’ve demonstrated the required skills and knowledge to the standard expected.
Not Yet Competent: You need more practice or development in certain areas to meet the required standard.
  • No Grading: Competency assessments do not involve grading or scaling. You either meet the standard or you don’t.
  • Foundation Skills: These are critical as they underpin your ability to perform tasks. Foundation skills can include literacy, numeracy, and other work-related skills.
  • Trainer Support: At Montessori Academy College, your trainer is there to guide you. They will inform you if you need more practice and provide support to help you achieve competency by the end of your course.

If you need further clarification or have specific questions about your assessment, your trainer is a great resource for personalized guidance.
